Biography
Raised in South Philadelphia, Tony Marino began studying piano at age seven after hearing Leon Russell, an experience that ignited a lifelong passion for music.
His early studies with pianist Bill DelGovenatore introduced him to jazz harmony, improvisation, and the compositions of masters such as Thelonious Monk, providing the foundation for his development as a composer and performer.
During his teenage years, Marino immersed himself in the Philadelphia jazz community, working at a local music store while developing relationships with musicians including Frank DiBussolo and Al Stauffer. Additional mentorship from pianist Tom Lawton and jazz educator Ernest “Hoppy” Hopkins continued to shape his approach to composition and performance.
Early Career
In 1975, Marino joined the Italian-American band Idea ’71, recording Supersano at Virtue Recording Studios and releasing a single through Medley Records.
After relocating to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1995, Marino formed Tony Marino and Havana Heat, leading to the release of his debut album:

The album launched Marino’s solo recording career and established his signature approach of combining Latin rhythms, jazz improvisation, and original composition.
